Devilish Design: Fab Pre-Fab Homes
- Posted on: Thursday April 8, 2010 at 4:00 PM
What is Pre-fab you ask? "Prefab" is the word used to describe homes that are manufactured off-site in advance, then shipped and assembled ons-ite. Now, I know, you are thinking why are we writing about trailers or those pre-built homes you see being carted on trucks on the freeway. Fret not; today's pre-fab homes are sleek, modern and luxurious. So for any of you with a hip outlook on design, a predilection for environmentally-friendly building, and a spend-thrift demeanor, sit back and enjoy: Not only are these prefab homes eco-friendly and extremely cost-effective, they'll satiate your inner design geek as well:

The above prefab home, the Arado, is a design by weeHouses. This 336 square foot getaway was constructed for a Minnesota Orchestra violinist and her family for the bargain price of $60k.
Below, the interior of the Arado, a perfect modern living space.

Above is the K1 module and below is the K4 module by Kithaus. Want to mix and match modules to make a larger prefab dwelling? Well you can! Also, the modules incorporate solar energy technology. Can you say green?

Above and below: The LV series homes by the queen of prefab, architect Rocio Romero. A cool fact: you can stack these modules to create a modern two-story dwelling. Customize to your heart's desire.

UConn Ladies Are Perfect. Again.

Confetti!
Remember when we said that Coach K's Duke was the best basketball program in the land? And who could argue? Well, Geno Auriemma and the Lady Huskies of UConn might have an argument. Tuesday night, they captured the NCAA Women's Basketball National Championship, defeating Stanford to cap off their second consecutive perfect season. That's two seasons in a row in which they lost a grand total of zero games. Their winning streak currently stands at 78 games. Wow.
Leading up to the final game, Connecticut had been mopping the floor with their opponents, averaging double-digit wins all season and throughout the tournament. This is a team that beat the No. 11-ranked team in the country by a score of 90 - 50. But at halftime of the most important game of the year, the seemingly unbeatable juggernaut was losing 20 - 12. Those twelve points constituted the lowest scoring total in the school's history.
But the second half was a different story, prompting Player of the Year, All-American, All-everything Maya Moore to say of her team: "Just no fear." Moore is just in her junior season, so she'll be coming back next year. Which is all to say: this winning streak has no end in sight.

Maya Moore: Jordan-esque.
For those who are wondering, Coach Auriemma says he has no interest in coaching the men. I'd say he has it pretty good right now. His success in the women's game has him sitting on a veritable empire, according to the Baltimore Sun:
You can buy Geno Auriemma wines, eat Geno Auriemma pasta sauce, and have a meal at his Fast Break restaurant. (For all of you fellow travelers on Interstate 95, his brand may soon adorn the rest stops in Connecticut, too.) And what would an American success story be without a book? To read how way he built UConn into the nation's best women's basketball program, check out Geno: In Pursuit of Perfection, an autobiography written with Jackie MacMullen. It sits on my parents' bookshelf back in Connecticut.

"I'm not a businessman; I'm a business, man," he seemed to say.
Stanford put up a good fight, but came up short.

#1 UConn. No argument here.

Spring Is Here! The Adventures Of B.o.B.
- Posted on: Thursday April 8, 2010 at 12:00 PM
Now that spring has finally sprung, what we're really in the mood for this week is a sun-shiney, heart-warming, joyful-as-you-like love song. And we've found the perfect track for the season. It might even perk you up while you're filling out your annoying tax forms, thanks to the unlikely lyric: "Baby, you the whole package... plus you pay your taxes." Nice.
Check out B.o.B's "Nothin' On You", featuring some luscious crooning from Bruno Mars (and prepare to have the chorus stuck in your head for the next week):
We're loving that video (even though something about it kind of reminds us of A-Ha's 1986 vid for 'Take On Me'...)
Little Justin Bieber plugged the track on MTV News last week, so we're pretty sure big things await for B.o.B - especially since his debut album, The Adventures Of Bobby Ray, hits stores on April 27 (through Atlantic Records).
The Atlanta-based rapper, guitarist, vocalist and producer is also on the road right now, and will be performing all over the U.S. til the end of May. We think that'd make for a pretty perfect date night, so you might wanna get your tickets now.
