The UK-based electro-boppers Hot Chip dropped down last Friday, April 16th in Oakland, CA, to promote their brand-new album, One Life Stand, to a sold-out crowd of exhuberant hipsters, snuggling couples, coy females anchoring the front row, and mohawked men - all of whom were ready to make the floor shake.

Oakland's The Fox Theater is a ferocious new music hot spot for live music in the Bay Area. Since 1966, the glamorous yet dilapidated theater had shuttered its doors until this Feb, when after a $75 mm renovation, the Fox reopened with a foxy new sound system, painstakingly-restored ornamentation (the type that reminds you of the golden age of cinema when men and women wore their best, shiny and sleek formal dress to a night at the Theater) and a drowl-worthy  summer line-up that includes: The National, She & Him, Nas and Damien Marley, and Goldfrapp. SFers out there, take mental note now!

The best news? Hot Chip is continuing touring on the East Coast before heading on an extensive European tour (Hot Chip, if you are listening, we will hide in your suitcases, clean your gear, and give back massages all tour - if you take us on tour with you this summer. The tour list looks.....delightfully hedonistic. [*sigh])

You know that feeling you get when you stumble across a new artist that's just so mind-blowingly awesome, it sends you into a frenzy of fist-pumping, happy-dancing mania? (...Or is that just us?) Well, today, we're so excited, we're having difficulty sitting still long enough to type this - and it's all down to a UK artist known as Tinie Tempah.

He's 21-years-old, he's recently emerged from London's underground grime scene and taken the island by storm, and he's not afraid to rap about his "mum" and "groupie"s in the same breath. Behold the wondrous hip-hop/ dance/ drum n' bass hybrid that is "Pass Out":

And yes, we're calling sunglasses "sun protectors" from this day forward.

"Pass Out" went straight to Number One on the UK single's chart (unsurprisingly). Tinie's debut album The Disc-Overy is scheduled for release this July, through Parlophone in the UK. And to say we can't wait would be the understatement of the month.

Despite rumors of a 'slight' entry SNAFU (mile long lines), the overall concensus from Coachella 2010 seems to be that the weekend's performances were "epic." (We didn't make it to Coachella this year but that's the word on the street.) Plus, since Coachella kicks off the summer long onslaught of sweat-inducing music festivals, its 'sold-out' status is a golden indication that there'll be much more riotous, musical goodness to indulge in all summer long.
