We're having a tech-themed day- what with the new iPhone software launching and all (um....we are finally showing our true nerd qualities, huh?)
Regardless if you are tech-savvy or not, the cool peeps of the Eyebeam Art + Technology Center hosted a slick event that appealed to techies, artists, and party-animals alike last night. Featuring twelve cutting edge contemporary artist exhibits, it gave a glimpse at how music and art is evolving with new technology - while pumping out music and tons of visual eye candy.
So what's the future look like?
Highlights included The World Series of Tubing, a YouTube card game remixing played in front of a live audience, created by Aaron Meyers & Jeff Crouse. Think you got your poker face right?
ReWare created a rock stage with a cracked iPod lead guitar, iPod bass, iPod turn tables, & iPod drums. (Yeah, just imagine NIN touring with a bad-boy i-pod bass....)
In a performance called Five, multi-disciplinary artist Rashaad Newsome captured the fluid motion of urban dancers performing using real time video processing software.
The walls in the raw space of the Eyebeam warehouse are covered in colorful graffiti, just like we like it.
PSSST The redux of the party, titled MIXER: Version, is slated for this Saturday, June 20. If you're in NY holler at it...

Yo – what do you do when you want to practice some beatmaking, but you're too lazy to hit the studio? Rev up ToneMatrix on your computadora. Click on the various squares to craft beats and watch as undulating wave patterns play the appropriate tones in rhythm.
Technically, it's a simple sinewave synthesizer based on a 16 step sequencer.
Visually, it makes cool laptop wall paper (and kinda reminds us of the snazzy Japanese Tenori-On that all those cool kids are rocking these days...um cool kids like Bjork that is.)
Second, renegade soundmaster(s) Major Lazer (i.e. Switch and Diplo) recently released a new "i-drum" app whose sounds are supposed to "ward off vampires and zombies, now with 20% more zombie-fighting power!" (at least thanks to the help of audio techies iZotope and Downtown Music.)
Another fun lil tech tune toy? Ron Winter's day-glo drum kit. Been out of a bit, but still provides some raw, eccentric rhythmic day-glo fun.
