UK's Hot Chip
It's Tuesday and it's a white winterland on the East Coast and a drizzly gray land on the West. To the rescue are two indie music videos to get you through the day.
The first is Michel Gondry's newest music video (Gondry is the creative behind Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind, who has got more impressive music videos than Lady Gaga has got gigs. {Ok that's probably exaggeration since we don't have an exact count for Gaga's collection but you get the point.}) This video is all about color and textures - a sea of people in impressive colored shirts making patterns of movement throughout Los Angeles. It's like a rainbow-hued American Apparel and/or Starburst commercial. The musical muse behind the video? The subtle, demure folk singer Mia Doi Todd.
PS if you are curious who the characters in the video are, they are members of the Marching band in Riverside Community College.
PPS Word on the street is Gondry ain't only directing her films but also serving as her drummer during her shows at Spaceland these days. Worth a browse if you're in La La land.

The second is "One Life Stand," by the electro-pop mates Hot Chip who roared into the New Year with a new album. While the video itself is dizzying-(literally) - shot in a striped room that continually spins- and the guys aren't the smoothest dancers in the world, the beat is mellow and soothing, good for mid-afternoon reflection. Nuf Said.
PS Their new album One Life Stand is OUT TODAY. Not bad timing...

“I guess this is the kinda song you love your virginity to :-)”
- SumitaNever Again
“I really like you doing pure pop music like this song, but the problem with it is that it encourages the white culture and wants it to be exclusive to you and Britney, etc. etc. You stayed away from that sin in your second solo album and it is easier for someone like me to look at you as an artist and a friend now. I am just saying that I want pop culture to be inclusive and you have done a lot towards that end.”
