Outside Lands Festival 2010 In Golden Gate Park: Sunday

We already shared Saturday's coverage of San Francisco's Outside Lands 2010. Fear not; we're keeping up the EXCLUSIVE coverage of the festival pumping with our Sunday review. Here goes:

MAYER HAWTHORNE (www.myspace.com/mayerhawthorne)

By the time Sunday rolled around, everyone's feet were sore and most dreaded another chilly day.  However, just as San Francisco locals were tiring of the fog city weather - (somewhere on the lines of Mark Twain's quote "The coldest winter I ever saw was the summer I spent in San Francisco.") - the sun burst out of the clouds and graced the festival with warming (and much appreciated) rays. Some of us even got sun-burned. Eureka!

Some of the crowd favs? For those who arrived to the fest early swayed and cooed along to the smooth soul of L.A.'s Mayer Hawthorne. (He was dressed in a pimp suit by LA slick suit-makers, Moods of Norway - who we hailed a while back for their inventive fashion taste.).. Australia's Temper Trap debuted their infectious guitar pop on the main stage while the vivacious jitterbug Janelle Monae had the crowd movin' and shakin' to her fast-paced dancing and whip smart lyrics. On the opposite side of the festival, the woods proved a perfect backdrop for Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and their organic folky love songs. The crowd sang along, as Alexander (i.e. Edward Sharpe) frolicked around onstage like a monkey or messiah (or both, we aren't sure...)

C-H-R-O-M-E-O oooh-oh. The duo from Montreal made big sounds on the Speedway stage via talkbox, Miami Vice beats and thunderous bass. People couldn't help but dance...or hoola-hoop. They were so engaging that, in the middle of the Chromeo set, a mob of about 70 ardent fans successfully rushed the fences and the crowd turned and cheered on their bravery. Following Chromeo, the long-awaited Nas and Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley channeled Rastafarian spirit - while celebrating their African heritage - as smoke filled the air. Few will forget how Nas cathartically freestyled about his personal life before breathlessly apologizing to the crowd. Regardless, a of the crowd flooded over mid-way through their set to catch Phoenix on the main stage. (Check out our interview with the band here!) As promised, the French popstars nursed the masses with their effortlessly melodic pop.

Following Pheonix, headliners Kings of Leon kicked off the night with their distinctive dark gritty whiskey-infused southern rock. Meanwhile, on the opposite end of the park, Australia's eccentric electro-pop outfit Empire of the Sun flabbergasted the crowd with a bevy of sci-fi dancers, blazing lights, David Bowie-style facepaint and intensely creative costumes (think Star Wars meets Trojan Warrior meets Ziggy Stardust. Yeah you heard that right ) We caught them back at Lollapalooza as well; trust us - they are worth even a plane ride (even middle seat) to see in the flesh.

Let's just say, no one wanted Monday to come along...
