Metric: Sick Muses

Let us start by saying that we do not condone playing musical instruments with lit sparklers. Ever. Even if it is "only" the drums.

Toronto-natives Metric though clearly just wanted everything in the video for indie-pop gem, "Sick Muse", as shiny and spangly and mesmerising as possible, if vocalist Emily Haine's wardrobe is anything to go by. Behold! She's wearing a romper disguised as a flapper dress! (And if anyone can tell us where to get one of those beauties, we'd be most grateful...)

You may recognise Ms Haines and guitarist James Shaw from their work with much-respected Canadian musical community, Broken Social Scene, but they'll be focused on Metric for the rest of the year thanks to the increasing success of fourth album Fantasies (which they self-released in the US under the imprint Metric Music International, last April).

Once they get done touring Australia, Canada and Japan (busy, much?), they'll be hitting the US from mid-November. While it'll be worth going just to steal vocal and fashion tips from Emily, the fact that they remind us of our favourite lady-fronted '90s indie bands (Throwing Muses, Belly, Lush, Madder Rose et al) is going to make it all the more thrilling.

Sick, indeed.

RIght For Me

“I guess this is the kinda song you love your virginity to :-)”

Never Again

“I really like you doing pure pop music like this song, but the problem with it is that it encourages the white culture and wants it to be exclusive to you and Britney, etc. etc. You stayed away from that sin in your second solo album and it is easier for someone like me to look at you as an artist and a friend now. I am just saying that I want pop culture to be inclusive and you have done a lot towards that end.”
