FOR YOUR VIEWING PLEASURE
Forget Netflix. One luxurious escape on a sizzling summer day? A retreat to your nearest movie theater; the air-conditioning alone compensates for the $10+ price tag. Here's a quick list of tempting summer films: PUBLIC ENEMIESWhat do you get when you add Johnny Depp, Christian Bale and La Vie En Rose's Academy award winning ingenue Marion Cotillard? A director's wet dream....? What about a seriously bad-a**, action-packed film. Public Enemies is historically relevant as well- as it shows the FBI's growth in power as they try to catch some of American History’s famed mobsters - Dillinger and Baby Face Nelson. In other words, it's filled gun-toting gangsters and 1930s costumes and cars. Dope.
TETRO
Coppola fans, rejoice. The Godfather legend is back to write and direct Tetro. (If you don't know what The Godfather is, we can't help you). Alden Ehrenreich and Renaissance man Vincent Gallo play long-lost brothers in this entertaining yet poignant tale of self-discovery. A very, very limited release begins on June 11, 2009.
AWAY WE GO
If you’re in the mood for a romantic comedy, (or if you're dragged by your significant other,) this film is the cinematic equivalent of drawing a heart in a tree trunk or eating ice cream at sunset. Not to mention it's got SNL mainstay Maya Rudolph and John Krasinski playing an expecting couple traveling through America to find the ideal home.
FOOD, INC.
Not your usual summer-fare, but heck, we’re always up for shaking things up a bit and trying something different. Though this documentary is said to be grueling, it's also supposed to be eye-opening in the most culinary sense. (i.e. it shows you how your food is made). Out on June 12, 2009. Warning: This is not appropriate for a dinner + movie date. THAT'S IT THAT'S ALL
